WHAT IS HEMP CHAR ?

Rocky Mountain Soil’s Inoculated Hemp-Char (Biochar from Hemp plants) is a locally sourced, sustainable product that can retain water threw its many pores, thus creating channels to the root of the plant, promoting plant vitality and healthy growth. Our Hemp-Char is produced locally and organically without the use of harsh chemicals or fertilizers.

Hemp-Char (Biochar) is charcoal that is produced by pyrolysis of biomass, yet in the absence of oxygen, and is used as a soil ameliorate for both carbon sequestration and soil health benefits. Hemp-Char is a stable solid that is rich in carbon and can endure in soil for thousands of years. we inoculate over bag with the right fungi for your plants growth.

How does Mycorrhizae help plants?

This is why all of our bio char is inoculated and if you need raw please head to the wholesale page.

Plants don’t give up their valuable sugar resources just for the fun of growing fungus gardens. They get a lot of things in return from the mycorrhizae, mostly in the form of nutrients.

Plants are able to get nutrients themselves through their roots, but they have a limited ability to do so. Their roots need to be in direct contact with the soil to absorb the nutrients, and plant roots can only grow so small. Fungi, on the other hand, can get much much smaller. Fungi can wedge itself between individual bits of soil to cover almost every available cubic millimeter of airspace in the soil. This increases surface area and allows the plants greater access to nutrients than they could get by themselves.

The mycorrhizae also absorb nutrients such as phosphorus and magnesium and bring it directly to the plant roots.

Additionally to all the other ways hemp char can help, the mycorrhizae help plants out in a whole bunch of other ways. Mycorrhizae can help protect their plants against diseases and toxins. Mycorrhizae can also serve as a sugar delivery service when plants shuttle sugar back and forth to different plants connected to the same common mycorrhizal network and :

  • Healthy plants
  • Increase tolerance to soil salinity
  • SHARPEN AND HIGHTEN plant establishment and survival when transplanting or seeding
  • Increase yields and crop quality
  • Control soil erosion
  • Improve drought tolerance, reducing need to water
  • Amplify the over all plant health in both veg and flower stages
  • Prevent leaching and optimize fertilizers use
  • Diminishes disease materialization
  • Contribute to maintain soil quality and nutrient cycling

Why Hemp-Char (Bio-char)?

Biochar, comparatively inert, doesn’t break down like other organic soil amendments and resists chemical and microbial degradation, especially when buried.

Biochar reduces soil acidity decreasing liming needs. It retains a significant amount of nutrients from its source. Because biochar attracts and holds soil nutrients, it reduces fertilizer requirements

As so many of us know, agriculture has been a part of the global carbon crisis that has brought us to this point . Research suggests that up through the turn of our century agriculture has been responsible for one-third of our global greenhouse gas emissions. The production of food makes up A BIG share of food related greenhouse gas emissions How we grow food is a part of how we heal our atmosphere.

As a part of a larger movement of regenerative carbon-based practices, including reduced and no till systems, cover cropping, green manures etc., charcoal, also known as “biochar,” is illustrating the ability to decrease carbon mineralization, making carbon more stable in the soil, while also increasing biological activity.

One hectare of industrial hemp can absorb 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per hectare. Hemp’s rapid growth makes it one of the fastest CO2-to-biomass conversion tools available to date, more efficient than agroforestry. It is possible to grow two crops per year so CO2 absorption can be doubled. The growing cycle for hemp is approximately 110 to 120 days, making it more suitable for Biochar than softwoods/hardwoods.

The use of Hemp-Char is one of the important trends that has emerged in sustainable food growing – on both a domestic and commercial scale – in recent years. There is a growing awareness of the need to develop more sustainable methods of organic growing, and the need to develop solutions for the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing global warming. Biochar has been touted as a potential solution for both issues, as well as the growing issue of global waste.
